"I've been meaning to email to tell you how much the training helped me. I used NVivo extensively in my analysis and don't think I would have finished in time if I hadn't."

PRELIMINARY INFORMATION

During all training sessions, participants discuss the qualitative research process as well as the specific capabilities of the software.

Equipment: All trainings are held in a conference room and require that you bring your own laptop. Computers can be rented, depending on availability (contact help@queri.com).

Locations: CLIC Retreats are held at the Inverness Hotel and Conference Center (200 Inverness Drive West Englewood, Colorado 80112) and begin at 2:00pm on Friday. Most other Denver trainings are held at 1401 17th St., Denver, CO 80202 and begin at 9:00am and end at 4:00pm. All of the one-day and two-day training locations will be posted and confirmed 6 weeks prior to the sessions.

Course Level (See detailed descriptions below)
NVivo CLIC Retreat (3.5 days)($695; student discount of $625)
These retreats begin at 2pm on Friday afternoon (March 24, August 4, and October 20) with a menu of sessions to choose from over the weekend and an optional unstructured work day on Monday. The overall goal is to help you make significant progress in your analysis during the retreat. Unlike a typical software training, these CLIC (Conversation, Learning, Interpretation and Clicking) Retreats provide the opportunity to learn in large group, small group, and one-on-one sessions (from beginning to advanced). You will work at your own pace with a customized plan and time to work independently in a vibrant, group setting, or a place of quiet solitude. You will receive a detailed training manual, and we can customize this manual to prioritize the most important tools for your research.

Registration does not include software, transportation, lodging or meals. Coffee/tea will be served each morning.

The Retreat will be conducted with "NVivo 11 Pro" for Windows, although the session is also appropriate for individuals using "NVivo 11 Starter" for Windows or "NVivo 10" for Windows. Mac users should not register until talking with the trainer.

Contact help@queri.com or 303-832-9502 if you have questions. Additional information is provided after you register.
Beginner NVivo (1 day)($250; student discount of $225)
Join us for the beginning day, the intermediate day, or both! (choose your option when you register). The beginning day includes a gentle introduction to the primary tools in NVivo. The training will be conducted with "NVivo 11 Pro" for Windows, although the session is also appropriate for individuals using "NVivo 11 Starter" for Windows or "NVivo 10" for Windows. Emphasis is placed on preparing data, coding, memoing, linking, backing-up and database management. Attendees may also work on their own data (or a sample data set we will provide) for a portion of the training. Registrants for the beginning session often also register for the intermediate session to be held the following day. Limited to 10 participants.
Intermediate NVivo (1 day)($250; student discount of $225)
Join us for the beginning day, the intermediate day, or both! (choose your option when you register). The training will be conducted with "NVivo 11 Pro" for Windows, although the session is also appropriate for individuals using "NVivo 11 Starter" for Windows or "NVivo 10" for Windows. The intermediate day moves researchers into more advanced tools in NVivo (classifications, attributes, queries, charts, modeling, etc.) and is suitable for individuals with prior exposure to the software. Participants must possess knowledge/skills regarding the basic tools in the software (coding, memoing, linking, and an ability to navigate comfortably in the interface). Attendees may also work on their own data (or a sample data set we will provide) for a portion of the training. Registrants for the intermediate session often also register for the beginning session to be held the prior day. Limited to 10 participants.
Beginning & Intermediate NVivo (2 days)($500; student discount of $450)
Join us for the beginning day, the intermediate day, or both! (choose your option when you register). The 2-day training offers a beginner session on day 1 and an intermediate session on day 2. This includes an exploration of all areas of the software and also allows you to work on your own data (or a sample data set we will provide). Limited to 10 participants.
Advanced NVivo (1 day)($350; student discount of $325)
This is an intensive and focused one-day training, in which participants work only on their data throughout the entire day. The training will be conducted with "NVivo 11 Pro" for Windows, although the session is also appropriate for individuals using "NVivo 11 Starter" for Windows, "NVivo Plus" for Windows, or "NVivo 10" for Windows. Limited to 6 participants. The Advanced training requires 80 hours of prior use of NVivo and is ideal for:
  • Researchers who have successfully used NVivo, but wonder if they fully utilized the capabilities of the software.
  • Qualitative methods instructors who want to create their own training modules with a familiar data set.
  • Principal Investigators who are familiar with the software and responsible for guiding/supporting others through a research project.
  • PhD students who are finishing up their analysis but have already coded a significant amount of their data.
After you register for the advanced session, the coach will contact you to discuss your specific research and your goals for the training. The following items will then be crafted into a training that meets the needs of all six attendees: Data types, Classifications, Attributes, Collections, Links, Queries, Reports, Extracts, Models (and the Relationship tool), Externals, Interface with Excel/SPSS or bibliographic databases, and team research issues (such as reliability, geographically dispersed team members, etc.).

It is recommended (although not required) that you send sample documents, a list of codes, and a one-page summary of research objectives to the coach prior to the advanced seminar.
