"I've been meaning to email to tell you how much the training helped me. I used NVivo extensively in my analysis and don't think I would have finished in time if I hadn't."

Using the sample data set

QUERI is pleased to offer a customized training to meet your needs (at no additional cost) with the data that accompanies NVivo. We will identify the most relevant portions of this data configuration to your own research, and focus on these key components.

Using your data set

As an alternative, you may have other data that is more appropriate for your team. In this event, we would be pleased to arrange a conversation well in advance of the coaching session in which the coach for your session can hear about your ideas for the agenda. By discussing the data, the research questions, team configurations, learning styles among the researchers, and any other relevant issues, our coach will be able to plan a successful session with your input. Adapting the training session to your needs involves no additional cost, and we encourage you to take advantage of the opportunity to co-construct the agenda.

A standard menu of topics

Regardless of the data used in the coaching session, the following topics will be orchestrated into the activities:

  1. Creating a coding structure and coding source materials
  2. Exploring strategies for coding inductively as well as deductively
  3. Managing non-text data (audio, video, photographs, etc.)
  4. Keeping track of emerging thoughts and analytical notes within the project (memos and annotations)
  5. Triangulating qualitative data with quantitative variables (age, gender, ethnicity, GPA, Likert Scale responses, etc.)
  6. Conducting searches to reveal patterns (and thereby build theories)
  7. Generating output in textual or numeric form (narrative reports, tables, charts, etc.)
  8. Developing graphic representations (existing/emerging theory, conceptual framework, literature review, social networks, coding structures, etc.)
  9. Promoting effective team research (dividing up tasks, the debates regarding coder reliability, and tips for managing the different stages of team research).

Additional topics may also be added to those listed above. Just let us know what suits you!
